Thursday 7th January - A fleeting trip to Auckland and the digger arrives..

Michael and I drove Mike and Val to Auckland, we didn't have a map so once we saw the Sky Tower we just headed in that direction and before we knew it we were driving along the front by the harbour. Docked there was the Dawn Princess..........................
She was huge and dwarfed the Waipa Delta, a paddle boat. The Waipa Delta used to be based on the Waikato River in Hamilton, but after some wranglings with the local council the boat was moved to Auckland, which is a real shame, it should have stayed in Hamilton.

Whilst eating lunch I noticed the Sky Tower reflecting in the windows across the road....
After a stroll around the Viaduct we left Mike and Val to find their hotel and to enjoy their stay in Auckland. Tomorrow we will pick then up from the bus depot in Hamilton and enjoy one last evening with them before they continue with their NZ holiday and then head home to the UK. It's been a lovely spending this time with them and now that all our contact details are up to date we shouldn't lose contact again.

The digger arrived....
Our neighbour Colin has offered to re-grade our drive, it's so full of pot holes that it resembles the surface of the moon, work begins tomorrow (Friday)...

The craters of the moon................
Pacing out the length to get some idea of the amount of metal needed to recover the drive..

......and a tree comes down
I almost forgot to add this, there 'was' a large pine tree that was getting far too large in the garden, there are one or two of them that have to come down that are near power cables, but they are for another day. Just before the pine came down Joe had also taken a diseased pear tree down too, it's not produced any good fruit since we've been here, the fruit always develops nasty black blemishes. And I'm not one for spraying what I intend to eat, so if a tree, plant or flower isn't capable of fending for itself it generally gets taken out or down in this case....

Timberrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........
