sTitchWITS - Pins and needles.....

Getting sidetracked yesterday in the craft room when I should have been tidying it made me realise that I needed to make more things in order to tidy it properly! 

No, really I did, honest, cross me heart bra and hope me knickers don't fall down!

I had stuff strewn all over the sewing table, silly piddly little bits that you have to rummage through to find what you want. In amongst all them bits were a load of pins and needles so as you can imagine I squealed like a stuck pig every time I got stabbed, I really don't think I could ever do acupuncture! I do have a very cute crocheted teacup pin cushion but it's full of pins already, and quite frankly I have lots of pins!

So after three design attempts and the first two failing miserably I used the K.I.S.S. method.

Below left is my new pin cushion and on the right is a roll up case for needles

The pin cushion is two circles of old blanket, blanket stitched around the edge, I popped a flower on top, stuffed it to within an inch of it's life and there it was done! Cute eh! :-D

Next up was the roll up case for the needles

It wasn't until I had finished it that I realised I had missed a blue out! Ah well it's only for needles.

It ain't too pretty and the machine blanket stitching is a little wonky. I shall call it 'rustic'.

Over on the back/outside...a piece of ribbon ties it all together.

Oh and PS Thank you to all of you who left comments yesterday, I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only nutjob person easily distracted. I have instructed Joe to put away the straight jacket....for now!

Sunny days on a winters day

It was in fact a sunny day today, well for a while it was and it was quite warm too, warm enough to have the door open earlier for a while. Of course it wasn't to last long, by mid to late afternoon the rain moved in and it got cool very quickly. But not so cold this evening that we need to have the heatpumps on. They were on for a little while but they're off now, the log burner is on low downstairs and that's managing to keep a nice even temperature throughout.

Today was a nice day for sTitchWITS, Dawn brought her knitting and I am in cushion making mode. I've been making them for the window seat in the lounge. I bought some cushion inners last week and they were a bit too small so I've bought the next size up and they look much better, the smaller ones looked a bit lost!

I've made four cushions so far this week, two of them today..

The front for this cushion has been in my UFO basket for an age, it was a partly finished quilt 'block' I found in an op shop. The quilting had been done but not the stitchery, so I finished that at my Thursday craft last week, today it got borders and a back which I folded over to become the binding.

Filling up nicely...

Tuesday sTitchWITs..and more UFOs finished..

Dawn and I were creative again today, it was make a cushion day. Dawn wanted to make a retro caravan cushion and here it is, I reckon that's a damned good effort even if she did spend half the day giggling at the wonky windows! I think it all adds to the homemade charm of it...

UFOs tackled today by me.......

This rooster cross stitch has been hanging around for far too long, I wasn't sure what to do with it. Then I saw an idea online where cross stitch hoops had been used as frames! So I thought now there's a great idea....and so I can now cross this off the list!

 This piece of fabric, I picked up at and Op Shop, became a throw, I love the colours. The trim was bought for another project but I had other plans for that, so it was used here instead...

 

This was tapestry style cushion cover, again found ages ago and I got the handles for next to nothing from an Op Shop. I knew that they would become a bag eventually and today it finally happened..

I kept it real simple, sewed across the corners to make a gusset....

....even lined it........

The handles had a bar that slipped through an added fold of fabric sewn in the seam between the front and lining....I'm rather pleased with this as it turned out exactly as I imagined it would...

I had to make a cushion too, I didn't want to miss out on all the fun, but I made this last night, I even put a zip in! Had to lie down after all that excitement I tell ya!

The trim I used above was originally meant for this lovely fabric, it was to be a throw. But I changed my mind and turned it into a curtain for the back door downstairs. It has a fleece lining on the back and I will need to recycle some curtain rufflette before I finish this properly!

So another productive day and I can see the bottom of my UFO box!!

Tuesday sTitchWITs...

Before I show and tell, we've had a slight name change for our Tuesdays, originally it was Tuesday Knitwits, then more recently Stitch and Bitch, but I don't like the 'bitch' part! 

Awfully rude you know! :D 

So it's now called sTitchWITs a hybrid of both names...although some letters tend to stand out for some reason!! :D haha 

Dawn was here again today and she had left a message on my forum saying she was..

" Off to knitwits, stitching bitches witches britches." 

A pretty awesome name in it's own right and well worth a mention and who knows it may well stick! 

Last week we made tea cosies from blankets, not recycled but 'UPcycled apparently..this week Dawn wanted to make a hot water bottle cover, and so she did..

It's rather cool I reckon...

..and the  back looks like this, the horizontal blanket stitch is where a pocket opens to allow you to put in your hot water bottle...

I would have liked to make one too but a week ago I set myself (and anyone else who wanted to join me) a UFO challenge. Up until today I was failing miserably and nearly ditched the idea, especially one UFO....luckily it came right today. I managed to complete two UFOs and I will share them tomorrow  when the challenge ends. How are you getting on?
