Love it ot hate it.....

Marmite...
or as it's called here Our Mate because they have a pretty poor imitation of the real stuff and that's called Marmite! And don't even mention Vegemite...just don't go there!
Anyway I love it , especially on toasted soldiers with two soft boiled eggs

Our satsuma(?) tree is heaving with the weight of fruit this year so I picked a basketful...
and juiced them

Somebody thought he could scrounge some breakfast, he should know better than that!
I finished my leisurely breakfast with another cuppa on the deck in the glorious sunshine! This is the kind of winter I like, sitting outside in yer PJs  with a cuppa and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face.
It doesn't get much better than this.

Thursday is usually craft day but it was called off today so I just pottered around and read my book I loved the movie and must watch it again sometime, enjoying the book too.
Tonight, being the fourth Thursday in the month, is the book discussion scheme I go to with a friend and neighbour. We all get the same book to read then when we meet we discuss our views etc based upon the questions on the accompanying leaflet. Before we start we all sit together and have cups of tea and share plates of food, which is really nice as it's an opportunity to get to know the others well. As there was no craft I felt I should really make and effort and bake something, so I made mini quiches, I made quite a few so we have some for lunches.

This months book up for discussion was..
Books blurb:
At the outset of World War II, Jack Rosenblum, his wife Sadie, and their baby daughter escape Berlin, bound for London. They are greeted with a pamphlet instructing immigrants how to act like "the English." Jack acquires Saville Row suits and a Jaguar. He buys his marmalade from Fortnum & Mason and learns to list the entire British monarchy back to 913 A.D. He never speaks German, apart from the occasional curse. But the one key item that would make him feel fully British -membership in a golf club-remains elusive. In post-war England, no golf club will admit a Rosenblum. Jack hatches a wild idea: he'll build his own.

It's an obsession Sadie does not share, particularly when Jack relocates them to a thatched roof cottage in Dorset to embark on his project. She doesn't want to forget who they are or where they come from. She wants to bake the cakes she used to serve to friends in the old country and reminisce. Now she's stuck in an inhospitable landscape filled with unwelcoming people, watching their bank account shrink as Jack pursues his quixotic dream.

In her tender, sweetly comic debut, Natasha Solomons tells the captivating love story of a couple making a new life-and their wildest dreams-come true.

My thoughts:
Loved this, such an enjoyable read, loved the characters and became totally immersed in them. I didn't want it to end. I even had a tear in my eye when I read the authors 'scrapbook' at the end which made the characters become more real knowing that they were based partially on her family and others she knew. I would happily read this again.

It seemed that everyone in the group enjoyed the book.

The other day I was reading somewhere in the news about Harper Lee, she was reported as saying that she did not give her approval for a recent memoir of her life, she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird.  I made a mental note to look out for her novel as I'm trying to read more notable novels and classics. Imagine my surprise when handed the latest book to read...
How convenient!

Right I'm off to have a cuppa and mini quiche and catch up on some tv.
Ta ra for now ♥♥♥

  4. I'm in the 'HATE IT' camp. I only remember having marmite in England when I was a kid. I remember it was very strong and bitter. Maybe I would feel differently if I tried it again now. The Satsuma's and little quiches look delish.
