Clay sculpture workshop

This past Sunday I went with a friend to a clay sculpture workshop, the lady taking the workshop is a friend of my friend :D and an artist, having painted in the past also. But she has now turned her creativeness to clay. I've always had a hankering to do something with clay. When I had my pre-school in the UK, I very often put the clay out for the children, much to the dismay of my staff, but the children loved it and so did I, I love the feel of it in my hands.

Wisteria in bloom
There were four of us plus tutor on Sunday and we had the option of two projects, one was to make a bust, more of that in a minute and any other project, it was funny how we all fancied making letters to make words, whether it was to spell out family, life, love or names etc. When you go to craft fairs you very often see such words in some media or other and they aren't cheap. Here are my efforts, I decided to do 'Good Life' after my blog, but it all took quite a bit longer than I thought it might. So I will work on the word 'Good' in other media, such as quilting etc.
By the way I can spell! :D This is just the first stage, we go back next Sunday to glaze everything then it will go off to be fired in a kiln. I'm getting quite excited about it.
Here is my 'bust' or rather a bust, one would need considerably more clay to make 'my' bust! We were given a huge lump of clay which we had to roll out and then place into a mould, pressing it firmly to form the shape, the boobs were reinforced with more clay that was ripped off from around the edges, if only it were as easy in real life! Scrunched up newspaper was also added for further reinforcement, thoughts of rolled up socks came into my head when doing this. Oh those heady teenage days when you think yer boobs are never going to grow, and then they do...and some! Sigh!
The clay is then removed from the mould and flipped over onto a board, tweeked into shape and any rough bits smooth out, I shan't say how long I tittivated! ;-D The holes down the front are for threading ribbon or maybe a leather lace, I am thinking corset, sexy basque. I was looking for inspiration on Google images and I was aware that Joe was peeking over my shoulder. He wandered off muttering that they all looked good to him!
So next Sunday we glaze, then we will have to wait a couple of weeks for them to come back.

Some inspiration
