Making pasta for the first time

Before I start I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has sent such kind words after losing Clyde yesterday. It is comforting to know that so many people are thinking of us it is very much appreciated. I didn't have a good night last night really but we're doing okay today.
I always think that when you're feeling a bit down there's nothing quite like good food to lift your spirits. Not so long ago we bought a pasta machine, we got it for half price but we hadn't got around to using it, today we remedied that.

First of all we made some pasta from 150gms '00' flour and 2 eggs. I realised after that with the quantity of flour I should have used 3 eggs but it seemed to work out okay, we might tweak it a bit next time and try a slightly different recipe. Do you make pasta? What recipe do you use?
I made a well in the flour and mixed it in slowly drawing in the flour.
Then we kneaded the dough for about six minutes
...wrapped it in cling film and put it in the fridge to rest, it recommends thirty minutes.

Tagliatelle with Mushroom sauce

And here's the new toy

Whilst Joe played with it I made the sauce.

Method

Ta dah!! Pretty good for our first attempt, it was pretty darned delicious.
Oh and the lettuce was from our garden!

Bon appetit

  2. I am sorry to hear about Clyde. Ten years is outstanding for a Border Collie. Good on all of ya. I never knew him in person, but all of the photos of him made him seem like family. You know?

That looks really good. I used to make pasta all the time, now there is not any time to make any, even the teeny amount that I eat once in a while, so i buy whatever is on sale. Absolutely not the same thing, but it is what it is now.

I am not brave enough to make my own pasta yet but I will make the mushroom sauce as looks delicious & easy over normal pasta.
So sorry to hear about Clyde that is very sad.

  6. Yum ... looks delicious!!
I've never made my own pasta ... too easy to pick it up at the supermarket for under a dollar ... but every time Masterchef comes on I get quite inspired to try. I'll have to look out for a half price sale too :0)
    xx

  8. Looks so yum - a gadget I would quite like I think! Gluten free pasta is really expensive and if I knew I could make decent stuff myself, it would be great!
