Slack Alice that I am!

I know, I'm sorry, been a bit of a slack Alice lately with the blog. We had a visitor last week so didn't have much of a chance to blog or read any either.
I need to sort through some photos before I can blog about what we've been up to of late, I'll get on to that in the next few days hopefully.
I will do a show and tell of my lonesome op shop jaunt today. Sue has been helping out at the Hospice shop and if you've been reading her blog lately you'll have read that she has been sorting lots of fabrics/craft stuff. She told me about some quilting fabrics she sorted dropped back yesterday so I was in the car bright and early and whizzed off down there, I found the fabric and a few other things...

I thought I might as well go check out a few more shops as I was out, and I did pretty well, it was a good day to find some bargains...

In Habitat for Humanity I found this lot, the preserving pan was $5!! I couldn't leave that behind, tiles all up $2.50 & the necklace for $6
Just noticed a broken petal, I can live with that :D

I called into the Salvation Army shop in Grandview, I hadn't been in here for ages and I'm so glad I did, I found a quilters cutting mat, in very good condition for $2.50, I was going to buy a new one, so that's saved me a bit of money. Also I found a bag of quilt batting and a book by Kate Atkinson, Life after Life. I read it recently and wasn't too keen on it. We read it at book club and some of the ladies didn't finish it, I said if I found it I'd get it so they could if they wanted and for $1 I grabbed it. I'm tempted to try reading it again sometime. Maybe it needs a second chance.

Joe was out and about this morning too, we met up for a coffee before his physio appointment. His knee, the one he had surgery on, has been a bit stiff lately. He went for a swim first at the hydrotherapy pool and was lucky to get an appointment. His knee feels a lot better now. I headed into Frankton on my way home and in Vinnies picked up a few more books, 5 for $4

But the find of the day for me was a personal one. Years ago, in 1976 I received for Christmas from my Auntie Lenna, a cookbook. It's dog eared, got grubby food marks and stains in it and pages are falling out, it's a mess. But it's the book that I always ending up using for traditional recipes, it's my fallback book and the old faithful. So when I saw the same book today I had to buy it, at $8 a bit high I thought but hey, I doubt I'll ever find it again. My Old Faithful can now be wrapped up and stored away and maybe one day I'll find somewhere to get it rebound. Have you ever been emotionally attached to something that you can't bear to part with it? In the meantime I have this one..

That's me for today, craft tomorrow so I'll make a determined effort to do a crafty post tomorrow.

Until next time, see ya

  1. hello Slack Alice, where is Sue??? Tehehe! Good to a friend in the know about the goodies you might like. I was like that when I worked in Farmers years ago, I would give my girlfriends a call when there was some good specials coming up. Say hi to Sue when you see her!

  4. You've scored some great bargains lately. I've put a hole in my preserving pan just like that one recently. So sad, I've only had it about 30 years! Looks like you have no excuses not be be reading. Or sewing. Or cooking :-)

  6. Just came across your blog tonight! Anyway, Sue/Alice, you certainly did find a few good bargains! I laughed when I saw the cutting mat... mine has several slices in it now & really needs replacing too! While the Kate Atkinson books are not to my taste, my daughter & others at our book club love them! Your other book finds all look captivating! Linda

    1. Hi Linda, thanks for popping by, good to see you. I can't believe I found the mat, it was just sheer fluke really, I wasn't going to call into that particular shop, luckily I did. Just need to find a smaller ruler now :D
