Thursday craft - Quilt tops and calendar blocks

I've just spent the last half hour sorting through photos of craft projects and then through old posts to try and work out where I left off. I think I have it now, so first here's some finished quilt tops...

Remember the reworked op shop quilt top? It's all ready for hand quilting, a nice task to do on a cold day snuggled in front of the fire.

Some time ago our group took a drive out to one of the nearby villages where a lady (who used to have a quilt shop in Cambridge) was now selling fabric from home. I got my black and whites from her, at the same time I bought some Oriental 6in charm squares, they became this....I'm dropping it in for quilting tomorrow.
A work in progress, still needing the horizontal sashing

 Finished top
I've made it for our bed to be used in the summer

The black and white with a dash of red is finished.
Binding on but not finished at this stage
Rather like the quilting Donnas Quilt studio did
The binding, all hand sewn, all finished
I decided I wanted to incorporate some of the black and whites into the black binding

And so to today and the Calendar quilt. I can't find what I've done with the photos of the other ladies blocks, I think they could be on my phone. So for now I'll show you mine..
A recap of the blocks so far
January: Hay paddocks
February: Be my Valentine
March: Cutting the Maize
April: UK to NZ
This one is a bit of a mix, the St Georges cross represents the English flag, St George also being our patron Saint, 23rd is St Georges day in the UK. The egg is for Easter and the poppy is to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Anzac's in Gallipoli. April is also the month we moved to NZ from the UK, we arrived on the 22nd. I will embroider on those dates etc at a later date
May: Fly away home
And today we made a start on May, the 1st being the start of duck shooting season, so we did a flying geese block sent by another one of our ladies. I know they're not ducks but we're using some creative licence here!!  Hers was done using some kind of webbing on the back and I just couldn't be buggering around with that, also I couldn't really see the purpose of doing it that way. I would have learned another skill and technique of course but I have another project I need to start very soon so the time factor played a big part in that decision. It still looks the same and took half the time.

That'll do for today, I'm off out with Sue tomorrow, we shall be partaking of some lunch...again....cos it's 'er burfday innit on Saturday! She's 36 apparently! Is that what you said? I reckon she doesn't look a day under 50!! hahah! Better make it a good lunch after that comment.

Laters.......

    1. Not sure how the whole thing is going to go together just yet. I think I've made up my mind where it's going to hang. I might also quilt each block as I go, we'll see.
