April 2008

This month we had some more fencing done around the top house (rental), it was a job that badly needed doing, our tenant (the previous owner of this place) kept ringing and telling me she had visitors...not human but Caprine...the goats visited a few times and one even went into the house!! So we moved the goats...then I had another phone call....this time the cows were in the garden, so a hastily erected electric hotwire was set up!

We decided it was time a fencer was called; and so that he could get on with the job quickly, we took out the old fence, this in itself encouraged another visitor..... Bert the kune kune boar! He had found a gap in a fence and trotted up each morning to have breakfast on the lawn! Such sociable animals we have!
Just before our tenant moved out she came down to issue a formal invitation to the chooks and ducks as they were the only livestock not to visit!

Michael took his restricted driving test and passed. He was pretty rapt about that, this meant he could now drive himself anywhere, but only between the hours of 6am - 10pm at night and he only take passengers if they have held a full driving licence for 2 years minimum...hence the 'restricted' bit.

Our passports were sent off to renew our returning residents visa in readiness for our UK trip in July.

Friday 25th was Anzac day, NZ's remembrance day. This meant a long weekend and we set about building new yards and holding pens for the stock. The fencer had already rammed in all the posts so they were ready to have the rails nailed on. It was a big job and took all weekend, with only some finishing touches to do and gates to be hung it was a bloody good effort by all.
