The quilt continued

I'm on a roll! Actually I'm a bit single minded when I start something, if I read a book I won't put it down until it's finished, then I get to the end and wish I'd savoured it a bit more. I'm much the same with decorating, I know that once we get to the painting stage upstairs, and we almost are, I won't stop until it's done. Nothing else will get done, a bit like this weekend really apart from the quilt.
Our bed is a King size bed so the quilt needs to be quite big or I think it will just look silly. The quilt as it was left yesterday was fine in the length but it was still too narrow. The panels are edged in those lovely rust and some wine coloured edging. I've pretty much run out of the rust but I have plenty of the wine colour left, that will be used to bind the edges, so I really didn't have enough to do more panels to widen the quilt. So I cut the panels down the middle and made long lengths to go either side, then with the other fabric I used between the panels, put strips down both sides and along the top and bottom.
I laid it over the bed and thought, 'Yup, that's done it!'
So now I assume I have to put some quilt wadding and a backing fabric. I don't have anything for that, a trip to Spotlight might be in the offing, how awful! haha
In the meantime as I wait for Tuesday I might make some pillow cases to match.

Oh, and I had help again, this time with the ironing, Tiger is such a helpful boy!

  4. Hi Sue. Your quilt looks amazing! That's something I've never tried. I'm a bit like you when it comes to being single minded about things. I get very absorbed and hate having to stop until it's finished.
Thank you for your lovely comment. I'd be more than delighted to make you something unique! Looking forward to seeing your finished rooms.
My husband managed to splatter red wine all over our sitting room wall last night. Thankfully I had not redecorated yet but it has been on my to do list for weeks!

  8. Oh my God Aileen!! What a waste of wine!!!! Don't let him have any more!
    ;D

Hi Kathy, I didn't think I would either, that's why I did big panels and having a machine makes it easier. I suspect that thactual quilting process is going to take a lot longer. Although I might jist take it to someone with a quilting machine!
    Thanks Debby & Mel ♥

  10. It's not finished yet, it's at the quilters, being backed etc and quilted. If you can sew a straight line anyone can do it. Piece of cake to be honest once you know how to start it off.

  11. I'm commenting to ask about your renovation, the little window seat area caught my eye, so I hope you don't mind my curiosity? Is the bumped out window on the deck area outside? I've been trying to think of something to do with a tiny space off my kitchen that is now my back entrance, but to turn it into a kind of sun room, and have the back door somewhere else....a way cheaper option than extending the whole room and having to re-roof the whole area.

I thought of a bay window, but wondered if it'd 'get in the way' and couldn't picture how it should/would look ....is your deck very wide at the window point? And would you mind if I use your (great) idea and print that photo to show my builder? Was that space with the bay window always there, or did you add it on?

Oh, and great job with the quilt, I can piece tops with no problems, fall down a bit on the rest and the quilting !

  13. Thanks Sue, got your message, and the pic of the outside of your bay window...good to see that and pretty close to what I want to do, so I'll be able to talk 'bay window' stuff to the builder now:)
