Meet Friskey

Friskey is a Murray Grey, darker coloured Jersey cross. Not usually the best mix for beef, Murray grey is good beef, it's the Jersey part many say you should avoid, but then as many people have said Jersey is just fine, I'm sure he will grow well and we'll find out for ourselves in about 2 years time. We mustn't lose sight of the fact that he will be a future freezer beast. It's a bit sad to look at him now and think that far ahead, but that is why he is here and it pays not to get attached. He will be well cared for, well fed and will have a happy life until the end.

Walk on
Are you lookin' at me?
Where's me dinner?Isobel haltered in the yards, with Joe at the kicking end!! Is she scowling? I think she might be!

The mothering on is going ok, not sure I can say well, but well in the way that Isobel hasn't tried the crocodile death roll and thrown a tanty on the floor. There were a few swift skicks flailing this morning, Joe got most of them, good job for steel toe caps. I think it might be worth him looking out his shin pads! :D
Up until this morning we had put the wee fella back in a bay, but we let them both go in a paddock together. If nothing else they can learn to cohabit.

We still have two cows to calve yet, there is always the option of mothering him on to one of them. We'll see.

  1. He is a cutie-pie. Then, one day, you can bake him in a pie.
What a horrible thing to say!!
